DESCRIPTION:The annual Curry/Bower exhibition is one of the largest exhibits all year\, and the artwork featured is mostly by regional artists of all skill levels. This stunning collection boasts a total of 194 works by 68 artists\, including the Youth Division entries.     \nGallery hours are 11-3\, Tuesday-Saturday.  Admission is free! All galleries will be open during the events on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. The gallery images from both the adult and youth exhibits are available online as well! \n

SUMMARY:Paddy Dougherty Live at the Bower Center
DESCRIPTION:Virginia based singer-songwriter\, Paddy Dougherty\, returns to The Bower Center stage with her bandmates of thirty years to present one of three farewell concerts. With a mix of emotions and a blend of genres “Movin’ On” will commemorate the quartet’s many years of soulful blues\, jazzy ballads\, and commanding originals. \nPaddy\, known regionally as the voice of the award winning band\, Mainstreet Rhythm & Blues\, also spent time on the road as a backup singer for national bluesman\, David Bromberg. She had several of her songs fully orchestrated by legendary arranger\, Charles Callelo and performed in concert with the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra and Rita Coolidge. For five years\, she toured as a songwriter with Kid Pan Alley writing hundreds of songs with thousands of children and after nearly thirty years of teaching music\, Paddy retired from the classroom to return to the stage with consummate musicians Larry Scott/drums\, Glenn Buck/keyboards and saxophone\, and Robin Tolley/bass.  \n“Life takes turns\, things change\, priorities shift\, and people move. Sometimes it’s just time to honor what once was\, celebrate it\, and then embrace and make room for the new. Sharing music with these guys has been life changing. They are not only consummate musicians\, they are dear friends. While keeping the band together is not sustainable or feasible given our current life circumstances\, I sure know who to call when I need a drummer\, bass player\, keyboardist or sax player!”   \nJoin the Bower Center for the Arts for an unforgettable concert with Paddy on February 28th\, 2025. DESCRIPTION:Little Town Players has been performing live community theatre in Bedford for more than 45 years! \nDon’t miss the WORLD PREMIERE of David Walton’s The Buttercups Were Lovely That Year! \nSummary: It’s the late 1960’s and times are changing\, but Earldean Jarvis lives in the past…the pleasant past when she was the bell of the ball\, the wife of an important county businessman\, and the mother of a football star and future doctor. Forgotten\, however\, are hidden family secrets and more than one person’s share of tragedy. Perhaps this is due to dementia\, or maybe she has selective memory\, but it little matters. For one of the things she’s chosen to forget\, or unable to remember is her son\, Tom. He too has had a troubled past\, but would like to make up for it\, by becoming closer to his mother before it’s too late. \nPerformances are February 21st\, 22nd\, 28th and March 1st at 7:30pm \nSunday matinees – February 23rd and March 2nd at 2:00pm \nDoors open 30 minutes before start time. \nSpecial Note: Because the theatre is a historical site\, restrooms are not in the same building.
