SUMMARY:Electric Company Art Gallery ~ Delmus Phelps - Journey to Create Beauty
DESCRIPTION:Delmus Phelps\, of Lynchburg Virginia has been an active painter since the mid 70’s creating works in the Realist tradition. \nBeing inspired by the nature around him and in things we tend to collect. Delmus produces still life and floral oil paintings in the Classical/Contemporary Style on canvas and panels. With a particular interest in sharp focus realism\, he produces still life works of incredible detail. His floral pieces exude a peace and serenity much needed in today’s hectic lifestyles. \n  \nHis goal\, as an artist\, is to provide his customer with an aesthetically pleasing picture. He also does an occasional landscape after riding his motorcycle through the Blue Ridge Parkway. These landscapes also reflect the beauty he sees in so many things. With Corporate and Private Collectors (some international) his art is well received. He also has a teaching website that explores the many processes used in both today’s paintings and yesteryear. Delmus uses a 14th Century Flemish\, multi-layered technique to produce his work. He is represented in several Central Virginia Galleries and on the web. His works will be enjoyed for generations. \nThe Electric Company Art Gallery on 207 E. Depot St. in Bedford is happy to present his works for the month of July. \nPlease come by\, 2nd Friday\, July 14th and come join us in this journey to discover beauty. DESCRIPTION:Lisa was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area\, after a short time in the Fine Arts program at San Jose State; she chose to make her living in Commercial Art\, receiving her degree at a private Art School. She began her career in 1979 at the age of 15 and it has served her well all her life. She and her husband Dale of 28 years\, have a daughter Julia (26)\, and a son Jesse (24)\, who were home schooled and they have worked as a family all over the United States. Both their children are have been doing it all for their living as well! \nFor 38 years\, Lisa has created literally thousands of works in all sizes\, styles\, mediums\, and subjects of canvas art\, murals\, faux finishes\, signs\, and much\, much more! They now call Smith Mountain Lake their home since 2004. \nLisa is most passionate about how her artwork touches lives & transforms spaces\, ministering to the soul\, making that emotional connection – which is the subject of this solo show! “Art Evokes Emotion” and these pieces truly will. DESCRIPTION:The 4th annual Lynchburg Touch A Truck is taking place on Saturday\, Sept. 9 benefitting CASA of Central Virginia and Brookhill Farms. Presented by the Home Builders of Central Virginia\, Touch-A-Truck is a family-friendly event that offers children a hands-on opportunity to explore the large trucks and machines that children see but never get to touch. The more than 65 vehicles on display will include everything from construction trucks and tractors\, to police\, fire and rescue emergency response vehicles\, to tractor trailers\, cranes\, lift trucks\, utility and speciality trucks and even a car-crushing monster truck and monster truck show. Children gets to touch\, get inside and let their imaginations run wild as they sit in the driver’s seat. (A supervising helper will be at each vehicle explaining and assisting the children.)   \nThe event also features face painters\, bounce houses\, food trucks\, food vendors and much more. The mission for Touch-A-Truck has always been to bring a very affordable\, fun family event to the community that gives back to local non-profits. Once you purchase your tickets\, the only additional costs is $5 if you want to take a monster truck ride and food should you visit the food vendors – all other activities are inclusive!  \nKids Keepsake Construction Hats to first – 1\,000 children.  \nAdmission is $5 per person (under 2 free) and a family ticket is $20 (up to six people).\nTickets are available online for purchase now which allows you to avoid admission ticket lines at the event.  \nFor more information\, visit our facebook event page.

DESCRIPTION:The Memorial will pay special tribute to those who are Missing In Action or who endured a Prisoner of War experience in this moving ceremony. Free admission from 10 a.m. – Noon. \nMichael Dolski\, PhD\, Historian with the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA)\, will give the keynote address “Remembering the Sacrifice:  POWs\, MIAs\, and the Quest to Account for the Missing.” \nThe agency’s mission is to achieve the fullest possible accounting for our missing military personnel for their families and their nation.  The DPAA is based in Arlington\, Virginia; with facilities at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam\, Hawaii and Offut Air Force Base\, Nebraska.  The defense agency is manned jointly by more than 600 Soldiers\, Sailors\, Airmen\, Marines and civilians with specialized skills.  Since the beginning of 2017\, that DPAA reports its accounted for 108 missing American service members. \nClick here to watch a brief video about the DPAA’s remarkable work. \nRichmond WWII veteran Russell Scott will be our honored guest. As a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps\, Scott was a tail gunner on a B-25 Mitchell bomber.  When his plane was shot down over Italy\, Scott kicked open the hatch and slid onto the tail.  Feet dangling\, he rolled off\, pulling his parachute.  Scott spent a year as a prisoner of war.
