SUMMARY:2nd Fridays at The Electric Company Art Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Revelle Hamilton – A native of Locust Valley\, NY\, Revelle Hamilton began her career as a fashion designer (1960-1984) after graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology in NY\, she moved to Bedford\, VA in 1980. \nShe studied watercolor painting with Eloise Gardiner Giles at the Huntington Township Art League on Long Island   for three years. She has since taken workshops with nationally known artists yearly. In addition to water media\, she also paints in oils\, acrylic\, dry and oil pastels. She has been included in numerous exhibitions and has won awards in juried shows. \nShe began teaching watercolor in the early 1980’s at the Lynchburg Academy of Fine Arts\, at Studios in the Square in Roanoke\, the Sedalia Center and has taught classes in drawing and watercolor at the Bower Center in Bedford as well as her home.  She serves on the Bower Center board and exhibition committee. \nPlease come by 2nd Friday\, August 10th from 5 to 8 PM at The Electric Co. Art Gallery\, 207 E. Depot St.\, Bedford and enjoy her work.

DESCRIPTION:Helen Hubler  \nHelen has been drawing and painting in oil for over 52 years. She began to do both at the Art Students’ League in NYC in 1963\, and has been at it ever since! She’s still growing and still challenged and responding with enthusiasm to what she sees. Her pencil drawings are intricate and delicate. These works are somewhat unlike her paintings. Helen has made pencil drawings of many of the works she’s done in oil. \nShe has had illustration jobs\, including doing the pen and ink drawings for two W.W. Norton books and illustrated a children’s book. She also became a commercial artist at a point in time of her artistic career\, learning to design ads and brochures as well as to do paste-ups and mechanicals. \n1992 Helen moved to Virginia\, and went to work for “The Roanoke Times” and there learned to do graphic design on computer at newspaper.

DESCRIPTION:Join the Friends of the Bedford Public Library on Friday\, September 21 at 7:30 p.m. as they host in concert\, Lula Wiles.  The concert\, held in the Bedford Room of Bedford Central Library is open to the public\, with a ticket price of $15.00 per person; collected at the door or purchased in advance through Lynchburg Tickets. \nLula Wiles is a band deeply rooted in traditional folk music\, but equally deep is their devotion to modern songcraft. Their songs span from heartbreak-drenched acoustic ballads to honky-tonk swagger to contemporary grit and back again\, all anchored by powerful three-part vocal harmonies. Their lyrics are fiercely honest\, littered with reinvented folk tropes and evocative images – a rainy field of daisies\, a dusty bar lit by Christmas lights\, an unmade bed. They deliver love songs that are at once defiant and heartsick\, as well as new contributions to the folk ballad canon and timely explorations of what it means to live in America today. Drawing from the deep wells of traditional old-time music\, classic country\, and contemporary indie-folk-rock songwriting and arranging\, Lula Wiles melds diverse influences to create a sound all their own. The three band members deftly swap instruments and frontwoman duties\, with Ellie Buckland (vocals/guitar/fiddle)\, Isa Burke (vocals/guitar/fiddle)\, and Mali Obomsawin (vocals/bass) each contributing their own singularly expressive vocals\, instrumental lines\, and songwriting.
