DESCRIPTION:The children’s classic\, adapted by Seymour Barab\, features a reimagining of the Big Bad Wolf as a lovable character who hates sweets\, as well as the everfamiliar Little Red\, who just wishes she had listened to her mother.  \nAppropriate for Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade.  \nOpera on the James’ nationally recognized Tyler Young Artist Program is made up of singers chosen from hundreds of applicants for their high level of vocal\, musical and theatrical skills. They are ambassadors for opera as an art form for everyone.  \nAbout the Composer: As a composer Seymour Barab (1921-2014) was fast and prolific\, especially known for his comic and children’s operas. His version of Little Red Riding Hood has in some years been the most frequently performed opera in America. He also wrote art songs and chamber music works with his signature wit and complex rhythms.  \nAbout Opera on the James:\nOpera on the James\, celebrating its 19th Season\, is an OPERA AMERICA Level Four Professional Company in Lynchburg\, Virginia Opera\, presenting work that enriches\, inspires and challenges the cultural landscape of Virginia with mainstage\, outreach and education performances and programming. SUMMARY:Murder Mystery
DESCRIPTION:Join the Bower Center for the Arts on February 17\, 2024 from 6:00-9:00 PM for A Murder at the Gin Joint! This is an interactive murder mystery event where you will play a character\, solve clues\, and interrogate all of the suspects. You will laugh\, talk\, eat\, and drink. In the end you will decide who committed the crime using your detective skills.  \nImmerse yourself into the Roaring 20’s while solving the mystery.  Costumes are not required but encouraged.  All participants will complete a short survey so their character can be developed specifically for them.  There are all levels of involvement.  Maybe you’ll be the murderer! \nTickets are $45 per person/ $80 per couple and include the game\, light food\, non alcoholic beverages and one drink ticket per person.  Cash bar including wine\, beer & a signature cocktail will be available.  Raffle tickets will also be sold to enter to win several themed prizes! \nEveryone will get their character role at the event. Tickets are non-refundable. This is an adults only event. Please arrive by 5:45 PM to get checked in. \nGet your tickets here\, as this is always a sold out event!
