SUMMARY:Festival of Trees
DESCRIPTION:Festival of Trees at the Bedford Area Welcome Center is an annual event that takes place around the end of November through the first week of January. “A Storybook Christmas” is the theme for this year. The event will feature trees that are decorated by local businesses and organizations. Visitors are encouraged to come by the Welcome Center and vote for their favorite tree(s) for only $1.00/vote. At the conclusion of the event\, all proceeds will benefit the charitable organizations designated by the businesses.  There are no winners and no losers of this event\, everyone has an equal opportunity to raise money for their selected charity and they will keep whatever amount they raise. The Festival of Trees is a festive family friendly event to celebrate the season while helping causes important to the community.

DESCRIPTION:The focus of this program is what animals eat in the winter! In Virginia\, winters are cold\, and food is scarce. Learn how our local wildlife adapt and overcome by preparing caches for leaner months.\nThis is a self-guided program in which you will complete a passport given to you at the beginning of your adventure by our staff. Participants will take to the trail system to find the question stations that correspond with their passports. Activities are geared towards elementary students\, but there are a mix of easy and challenging questions to keep students of all ages engaged\, as well as parents! DESCRIPTION:Following a brief winter break\, Poplar Forest reopens to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from January 15 to March 13\, with guided tours offered every hour beginning at 10:30 a.m. Explore the octagonal villa Jefferson designed as his personal retreat\, walk the plantation grounds\, visit the slave quarter site\, shop in the Museum Shop and browse the exhibits in the lower level of the house.\nAdmission to Winter Weekends is $18 for adults; $16 for seniors (ages 65+) and military (must show ID); $10 for college students (must show ID) and teens (ages 12 -18); $6 for youth (ages 6-11); and free for children under age 6 and Poplar Forest members. Tour tickets available online at www.poplarforest.org/tickets.\nGrounds Only admission rates are available\, which include all grounds and self-guided exhibits\, but do not allow for access into the main level of Jefferson’s villa. $10 for Adults (ages 13+); $5 for Youth (ages 6-12); free for children under age 6.
