Visit your local library between January 23rd and 28th to make a Valentine to show your appreciation for a veteran. Materials are provided so all you have to do is show up! Valentines will be sent from your library branch to the patients at Salem VA Medical Center. \nGet an early start on literacy this February with the Winter Reading Program! Children aged 0-5 can earn stickers during the entire month of February by reading books with their caregiver. Register at your local library branch and start working toward your special certificate as early as Wednesday\, February 1st! Don’t forget\, this can count towards their 1KB4K total! \nBedford Business\nTuesday\, January 17th is Family Movie Night at the Bedford Library. We are showing The Secret Life of Pets (PG)\, an animated film from the studio that brought you Despicable Me! Enjoy crafts at 4:45 and the movie at 5PM. Snacks provided! The movie’s running time is 1 hour 30 minutes. We hope to see you there! \nOn Thursday\, January 19th and Thursday\, January 26th\, you’re invited to the library at 4PM to learn about our 3-D printer. After this introduction\, teens ages 13 through young adult can make reservations to create their own masterpieces using this cutting edge technology. Days available for 3-D printing use will be Monday through Thursday between the hours of 4PM and 5:15PM. Due to the complexity and duration of the process\, only one or two prints can be made in a day. \nGet ready for another season of our early literacy programs\, Books 4 Fun and Rock-A-Bye Reader! Books 4 Fun begins on Tuesday\, January 24th at 10:30 AM. Rock-A-Bye Reader follows on Wednesday\, January 25th at 10:30 AM. Both programs repeat every week. B4F is a fun and engaging story and craft time for children aged 3-6. RBR provides equivalent stimulation for infants and toddlers up to 3 years of age. Between 4:15 and 5:30 PM\, teens and tweens between the ages of 11-19 are invited to participate in Fashion Club. Learn about the world of fashion\, how to create your own designs\, and do cool Do It Yourself projects to make or repurpose your own clothing. Materials are provided\, but you may also bring your own. Fashion Club meets twice a month on the first and fourth Wednesday of the month. Another meeting is coming up on Wednesday\, February 1st! \nForest Fun\nGet ready for another season of our early literacy programs\, Books 4 Fun and Rock-A-Bye Reader! Starting on Tuesday\, January 24th\, children aged 3-6 are welcome to enjoy Books 4 Fun. The Forest Library holds one session at 10:30 AM on Tuesdays\, and repeats the session at the same time on Wednesdays. These sessions repeat weekly. \nRock-A-Bye Reader returns on Monday\, January 23rd. Forest holds its session for infants up to 21 months old at 10:15 AM on Mondays\, followed by a session for toddlers between 21 and 36 months at 11:15 AM. Stepping out of the criteria that led to this success\, she decided to explore different techniques.  She loosened up and allowed the fates to make some decisions in her world of controlled chaos.  She tried on provocative and may or may not have let her humorous side break out – it’s there with or without her permission. \nPaddock’s brushstroke and palette create pieces that are easily recognized as hers.  To move beyond her set structure\, she decided to explore different mediums and themes. She went for latex paint and pastels.  She considered more exciting ways of applying paint.  She has even started to get a bit political. \n“Out of Bounds” came from an offhand comment that was quickly snatched up and completely taken advantage of. It was nurtured in the spirit of leaping without looking and having faith in your gifts regardless of outcome. It is an exhibit with the strongest intentions of connecting with viewers about the idea that the arts are a playground for the mind. Mason and Paddock have been exhibiting together in two women shows\, and as members of an art gallery co-op for the past four years. DESCRIPTION:Skipper’s Alley\, traditional Irish Music from Dublin Ireland will be in concert on Friday\, March 3\, 2017 at 7:30pm. \nThe concert\, held in the Bedford Room of Bedford Central Library is open to the public\,  and tickets can be purchased in advance from Lynchburg Tickets.  Note:  All tickets are $15.  You must bring a paper receipt or evidence on your phone to gain admission.  Doors open at 7pm. \nSkipper’s Alley are a 7-piece ensemble whose dynamic take on traditional Irish music has garnered wide critical praise and featured on stages across three continents. \nWith a sound described as “from unaccompanied song through to full Chieftains frenzy” (Folk World)\, the Dublin-based group arrange and interpret traditional Irish folk music on Uilleann Pipes\, Harp\, Fiddle\, Whistles\, Bodhrán\, Banjo and more\, taking influence from such early bands as Planxty\, Dé Dannan and The Bothy Band. \nSkipper’s Alley first came to prominence in the summer of 2013 after winning the Loic Raison Trophy at Le Festival Interceltique de Lorient\, an award previously won by such established acts as Danú and Clannad.
