SUMMARY:Torn Paper Collage Workshop at the Bower Center
DESCRIPTION:Gather\, relax\, meet new friends\, and share in creating a beautiful torn-paper blueberry. You will complete an 8″x8″ blueberry on a white background. ALL materials are provided\, but you’re welcome to bring personal your papers with handwriting\, words\, quotes\, names or places that will add meaning to your artwork. When you arrive\, your wooden panel will already be painted\, and all papers and glues provided. We will share a paper-painting demonstration\, and then you’ll spend the rest of the class time completing your blueberry artwork. Absolutely no experience or creativity is needed. While we can’t eat the paper\, we will share a delish blueberry treat. \nInstructor Jane Barefoot Rochelle Arts is a studio artist at The Bower Center\, and a native of Bedford. After living in Raleigh for 13 years\, she is most happy to be back home\, spending time with old friends and meeting new ones. A life-long creative spirit\, she enjoys nature\, music\, spending time with her family\, and creating images with torn paper! DESCRIPTION:This lecture is an online event only through Facebook Live on the National D-Day Memorial’s Facebook page. \n“Women Spies of WWII” by April Cheek-Messier\, President and CEO\, National D-Day Memorial Foundation \nThe lecture “Women Spies of WWII” will focus on the life of Virginia Hall\, an American spy who helped escaped POWs\, downed airmen and who was responsible for killing 150 German soldiers and capturing 500 others while organizing resistance activities. Hall was so successful in her work that the Gestapo issued these orders in the hunt for her. “She is the most dangerous of all Allied spies. We must find and destroy her.” \nThe program will also explore the life of Christine Granville\, Britain’s first female special agent who parachuted into France where an agent’s average life expectancy was only six weeks.
