DESCRIPTION:This Lunchbox Lecture is an online event only through Facebook Live on the National D-Day Memorial’s Facebook page\, as well as their YouTube channel\, and will not be held at the National D-Day Memorial.\n \n“Aircraft of the Military Aviation Museum” with Keegan Chetwynd\, Museum Director\nJoin Museum Director Keegan Chetwynd for a look across the one-of-a-kind flying collection at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach. Each of the iconic\, historic aircraft in the collection have been painstakingly restored so that they can be flown at demonstrations and airshows throughout the year. The aircraft are maintained and displayed across a 130-acre campus that includes original WWII structures from overseas\, recovered and relocated to Virginia Beach to create a unique way to experience history.

Her interest in art was encouraged throughout her youth and she graduated from Bridgewater College with a BA in art. \nFrustration when trying painting during her college years lead to her independent colored pencil study in 1986 … she had found her niche! In 1990 she became a charter member of the Colored Pencil Society of America. \nJennifer uses the finest\, most permanent and light-fast colored pencils in the world to create her works of art\, but like most colored pencil artists\, got her start with Prismacolors and still uses them on occasion. No solvents are used; multiple layers of color are applied to achieve the desired effect. As many as 15-20 layers may be required.

The raid did not\, to say the least\, go as planned. What were the lessons of the costly Dieppe Raid\, and how were they applied two years later on D-Day? National D-Day Memorial guide Richard Elder\, the son of a D-Day tanker\, will unfold how Allied leaders used the painful experience of Dieppe to fight a better war.

DESCRIPTION:Come visit this free exhibit or click here to see it virtually. \nJennifer Phillips Carpenter\, originally from Bridgewater VA\, has over 35 years of experience working with colored pencil. Her interest in art was encouraged throughout her youth and she graduated from Bridgewater College with a BA in art. \nFrustration when trying painting during her college years lead to her independent colored pencil study in 1986 … she had found her niche! In 1990 she became a charter member of the Colored Pencil Society of America. \nJennifer uses the finest\, most permanent and light-fast colored pencils in the world to create her works of art\, but like most colored pencil artists\, got her start with Prismacolors and still uses them on occasion. No solvents are used; multiple layers of color are applied to achieve the desired effect. As many as 15-20 layers may be required.
