While the 1857 Slave Dwelling was built after Jefferson’s lifetime\, it is historically important as it is the only original dwelling built for enslaved people still standing on the property. As part of the 1857 Slave Dwelling Restoration Project’s efforts to stabilize\, research\, and restore this structure with the community\, we invite you to visit our archaeologists to see what they are finding and learning about the people who lived here. \nFriday Field Days are included with regular admission which can be purchased in advance here. Admission to the property includes either a docent-guided or self-guided tour of Jefferson’s retreat home\, access to exhibits in the lower level and wing of offices of the villa retreat\, and outdoor exhibits throughout the property.

DESCRIPTION:Join Goose Creek Studios for the celebration of their current show “Scotty: A Retrospective of Art by Warner T. Scott” This show includes early art school projects\, graphic work from Warner’s 37 years as an artist at Piedmont Label\, photography of the local area\, drawings and models of historic building in downtown Bedford\, recreated signs from bygone downtown businesses\, and graphic works for community organizations and downtown redevelopment. His two published books of photography juxtaposing historic and contemporary buildings and street scenes “Bedford\, Past and Present” will also be on display and for sale.\nIt is rare to be able to exhibit such a vast assortment of work from a single artist. This fun and quirky collection gives us insights into the creative process\, the required technical skills\, and the evolution of the artist’s vision. Especially when looking at the graphic work\, we get a glimpse into the complexity of the pre-computerized graphic design process.\nBut most importantly\, Warner’s collections and his generosity show us just how much an artist can contribute to a community’s sense of identity and pride. In this show we not only see the evolution of Warner Scott as an artist\, but we also see the evolution of Bedford and how the town has responded to ever-changing trends and demographics. Warner’s work mirrors a half century of Bedford growth.

SUMMARY:Murder Mystery at Fables & Feathers
DESCRIPTION:Join Jump into Mystery for a pirate themed murder mystery. This will be an interactive murder mystery event where you will play a character\, solve clues\, and interrogate all of the suspects. You will laugh\, talk\, eat\, and drink. In the end you will decide who committed the crime using your detective skills. Tickets are $35 per person. Wine and beer will be available for purchase throughout the event\, but are not included in the ticket. There will also be an option to purchase a BBQ dinner for $20 per person at 5:30pm at the winery before the murder mystery event. Everyone will get their character role at the event. DESCRIPTION:Join Poplar Forest’s Department of Archaeology and Landscapes every Friday at 1:30 PM  through August 30 for an in-depth look into their current excavations and what they are learning about the people who lived in and around the 1857 Slave Dwelling. While the 1857 Slave Dwelling was built after Jefferson’s lifetime\, it is historically important as it is the only original dwelling built for enslaved people still standing on the property. As part of the 1857 Slave Dwelling Restoration Project’s efforts to stabilize\, research\, and restore this structure with the community\, we invite you to visit our archaeologists to see what they are finding and learning about the people who lived here. \nFriday Field Days are included with regular admission which can be purchased in advance here. Admission to the property includes either a docent-guided or self-guided tour of Jefferson’s retreat home\, access to exhibits in the lower level and wing of offices of the villa retreat\, and outdoor exhibits throughout the property.
