DESCRIPTION:The Bedford Public Library System’s annual Summer Reading Program (SRP) will be here before you know it\, so make sure you save the date. The SRP registration officially begins on May 21st\, and story time programs resume during the week of Memorial Day. This summer we are “Reading by Design” by reaching reading goals\, attending fabulous programs\, and earning spectacular prizes! The upcoming summer months bring all kinds of special events\, including: exclusive design-themed activities\, performances by the Rock Star Magicians Chris & Neal\, Roanoke Children’s Theatre\, and a visit from our friends the Larsen family. There will also be a special guest\, Russell the therapy dog and his human\, Sue Ellen Haver. Between 4:00 and 5:30 PM\, teens and tweens between the ages of 11-19 are invited to participate in Fashion Club. Learn about the world of fashion\, how to create your own designs\, and do cool Do It Yourself projects to make or repurpose your own clothing. Materials are provided\, but you may also bring your own. Fashion Club meets twice a month on the first and fourth Wednesday of the month. Another meeting is coming up on Wednesday\, May 3rd! \nStart the month of May with a program to assist you in writing your best research papers for school. Though the internet is great\, it can also make writing a paper for school hard. What if the website you’re using isn’t accurate? How can you tell? DESCRIPTION:It is March Madness for the Bedford Public Library System as we have lots of events going on at each of the branches and our headliner this month is our third annual Community Read\, a reading program that is truly out of this world. This year our theme is outer space\, and we’ll be exploring infinity and beyond with a great selection of books\, movies\, and programs throughout the month. Join your neighbors in this collective reading effort and check out one of this year’s titles! For this year’s picture book\, we are reading Mousetronaut Goes to Mars\, by Mark E. Kelly; for juvenile fiction\, we are reading Space Case\, by Stuart Gibbs; teens are invited to read Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card\, and adults can enjoy Andy Weir’s acclaimed novel\, The Martian. \nBedford Business \nOur early literacy programs\, Books 4 Fun and Rock-A-Bye Reader\, are back for another season! Books 4 Fun takes place on Tuesdays at 10:30 AM. Rock-A-Bye Reader follows on Wednesdays at 10:30 AM. Both programs repeat weekly. DESCRIPTION:All BPLS branches will be closed on Monday\, February 20th in observance of Presidents’ Day. \nGet an early start on literacy this February with the Winter Reading Program! Children aged 0-5 can earn stickers during the entire month of February by reading books and doing special activities with their caregiver. Story time books count toward both the Winter Reading Program and 1KB4K! Register at your local library branch and start working toward your special certificate as early as Wednesday\, February 1st! \nComing up in the month of March is our third annual 2017 Community Read! Prepare yourself for a reading program that is truly out of this world. This year our theme is outer space\, and we’ll be exploring infinity and beyond with a great selection of books\, movies\, and programs throughout the month. Join your neighbors in this collective reading effort and check out one of this year’s titles! For this year’s picture book\, we are reading Mousetronaut Goes to Mars\, by Mark E. Bring your friends and enjoy this spooky film at 4PM. The movie’s running time is 1 hour 44 minutes. \nA new program is starting on Wednesday\, October 5th! Between 4 and 5:30 PM\, teens and tweens between the ages of 11-19 are invited to participate in Fashion Club. Learn about the world of fashion\, how to create your own designs and do cool Do It Yourself projects to make or repurpose your own clothing. Materials are provided\, but you may also bring your own. Everything you create\, you can keep! Join us to make clothing and accessories that are worthy of walking down any runway. This program is scheduled to repeat on the first Wednesday of every month. \nComing up on October 11th and 12th is a special STEAM (Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, Art\, Math) program sure to pull you in like a magnet! Come to the Bedford Library at 4:15 PM on either of two days to make magnetic slime and explore the phenomenon of magnetism for National Science Month. Make a mess—for science! \nForest Fun \nBooks 4 Fun and Rock-A-Bye Reader are back for the fall! Children aged 3-6 are welcome to enjoy Books 4 Fun on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The Forest Library holds one session at 10:30 AM on Tuesdays\, and repeats the session at the same time on Wednesdays. These sessions repeat weekly. \nRock-A-Bye Reader has also returned for another season. Forest holds its session for infants up to 21 months old at 10:15 AM on Mondays\, followed by a session for toddlers between 21 and 36 months at 11:15 AM. Forest holds an additional two sessions for 21-36-month-old toddlers on Thursdays at 10:15 and 11:15 AM. These sessions repeat weekly. \nComing up on Thursday\, September 29th is Teen Club! Stop by the library between 4-5PM to spend time with your friends and enjoy free snacks. Afterwards\, LEGO® Club begins at 5:30 and continues until 7PM. \nAre you a dinosaur fan? Then you should drop by the Forest Library for our exclusive Dinosaur Club between 4:30-5:30 PM on Thursday\, October 6th!
