DESCRIPTION:Lenny Marcus hails from Wash\, DC\, but he worked for many years in New Orleans\, studying and performing with legends such as Ray Bryant\, Ellis Marsalis\, Alvin Batiste\, and recording with David “Fathead” Newman\, Charlie Byrd\, Frank Foster\, Sonny Fortune\, Brian Lynch\, Jane Powell and others. His band is a well-schooled jazz group. Lenny has recorded 20+ CDs to date\, 22 as leader\, performed in two international jazz festivals\, and has had his music featured on the National Weather Channel\, NPR’s All that Jazz and All Songs Considered. Two of his songs were finalists in the ISC international song writer’s competition. Lenny is a highly trained jazz pianist who also plays flute and adds vocals. SUMMARY:Bower Concert with Ken and Alli\, Bedford’s folk duo
DESCRIPTION:Ken Horne and Allison Johnson will perform at the Bower Center on Saturday September 17th beginning at 7:30 PM.   Tickets are $10 in advance bought at lynchburgtickets.com or Bower Center.   Tickets at the door are $12.  The price of the tickets is kept low because of the Town of Bedford’s Government Challenge Grant and the VCA. \nKen and Alli treat their audiences to a show spanning several centuries and many genres of American folk music. From contemporary Americana to sixteenth-century Childe ballads\, from classic blues to country music standards\, they offer a variety of musical flavors. Ken Horne and Allison Johnson perform as the vocal duet “Ken and Alli”. Their stage show spans several centuries and many genres of American folk music. From contemporary Americana to sixteenth century Childe ballads\, from classic blues to country music standards (and some that ought to be)\, Ken and Alli offer a variety of musical styles and arrangements that can only be described as delightfully eclectic. Allison’s sparkling lead vocals and intricate harmonies blend perfectly with Ken’s rich baritone. Accompanied by finger style guitar and six string banjo with an occasional harmonica bit thrown in\, Ken and Alli create an evening of music that is entertaining\, inspirational\, and mostly\, a whole lot of fun.
