SUMMARY:Guest Artist Helen Hubler at The Electric Company: Art & More
DESCRIPTION:Helen Hubler  \nHelen has been drawing and painting in oil for over 52 years. She began to do both at the Art Students’ League in NYC in 1963\, and has been at it ever since! She’s still growing and still challenged and responding with enthusiasm to what she sees. Her pencil drawings are intricate and delicate. These works are somewhat unlike her paintings. Helen has made pencil drawings of many of the works she’s done in oil. \nShe has had illustration jobs\, including doing the pen and ink drawings for two W.W. Norton books and illustrated a children’s book. She also became a commercial artist at a point in time of her artistic career\, learning to design ads and brochures as well as to do paste-ups and mechanicals. \n1992 Helen moved to Virginia\, and went to work for “The Roanoke Times” and there learned to do graphic design on computer at newspaper.

SUMMARY:2nd Fridays at The Electric Company Art Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Revelle Hamilton – A native of Locust Valley\, NY\, Revelle Hamilton began her career as a fashion designer (1960-1984) after graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology in NY\, she moved to Bedford\, VA in 1980. \nShe studied watercolor painting with Eloise Gardiner Giles at the Huntington Township Art League on Long Island   for three years. She has since taken workshops with nationally known artists yearly. In addition to water media\, she also paints in oils\, acrylic\, dry and oil pastels. She has been included in numerous exhibitions and has won awards in juried shows. \nShe began teaching watercolor in the early 1980’s at the Lynchburg Academy of Fine Arts\, at Studios in the Square in Roanoke\, the Sedalia Center and has taught classes in drawing and watercolor at the Bower Center in Bedford as well as her home.  She serves on the Bower Center board and exhibition committee. \nPlease come by 2nd Friday\, August 10th from 5 to 8 PM at The Electric Co. SUMMARY:2nd Friday Artist at The Electric Company - Virginia Dickens
DESCRIPTION:Virginia Dickens\, is a photographer\, artist\, and graphic designer. She creates her art by combining her photographs\, paintings and sketches in Photoshop. The mixed media piece is then built up layer-by-layer\, adding pieces of her photographs as she goes. Printing her creations on canvas\, metal and watercolor paper in her studio\, she assembles the frames and hand stretches her work. Some canvas prints receive another round of painting with acrylics and gel mediums. In 2009\, it was a Near Death Experience which would open up a strong spiritual relationship with nature\, human consciousness and her understanding of death. While weed whacking in the yard\, she disturbed a yellow jacket nest and was overcome by bee stings. What the artist experienced that day soon became the underpinning of her latest creations. \nPlease come by 2nd Friday\, June 8th from 5 to 8 PM at The Electric Company Art Gallery\, 207 E. DESCRIPTION:Susan Miller Bradbury is a quiet\, unassuming Roanoke\, Virginia native who enjoys capturing the events of life. She especially appreciates taking her memories captive and placing them on the canvas. Her greatest love is utilizing provocative lighting and/or expressive situations to capture the viewer’s heart. Susan graduated from Radford University with a BA in Graphic Arts as well as a minor in French. Later in life\, she discovered a love for portraiture and went on to take classes from many well-known instructors such as Daniel Greene\, Paul McCormack\, Vera Dickerson\, Lee Boynton and Debbie Gualco. She has illustrated several published books and is in the process of illustrating others.
