Enjoy colonial-style entertainment\, demonstrations by colonial artisans and craftspeople\, archaeological displays\, old-fashioned children’s activities\, a reading of the Declaration of Independence and more! The Independence Day Celebration at Poplar Forest is $12/Adults ages 16+. Youth ages 15 and under are Free. Tours of Jefferson’s villa retreat will be available throughout the day. DESCRIPTION:Come celebrate the 40th anniversary of the formation of the Corporation for Jefferson’s Poplar Forest and the completion of the interior restoration after 34 years with a day full of activities.\nThe nonprofit Corporation for Jefferson’s Poplar Forest was formed in December 1983 by a group of individuals to lead the rescue of Jefferson’s endangered retreat for the cultural and educational benefit of the public—now and for future generations. In January 1984\, the Corporation succeeded in taking title to a 50-acre parcel of land which was all that remained with the original buildings at the heart of Jefferson’s original plantation.\nWatch Thomas Jefferson himself\, portrayed by veteran interpreter Bill Barker\, as he arrives via horse and carriage at the front of the retreat home to welcome his guests for the day. Also participating in the event will be Thomas Jefferson\, as portrayed by renowned interpreter Bill Barker\, courtesy of The Thomas Jefferson Foundation.\nAll seating will be “lawn seating”\, and patrons should bring their own chairs or blankets to place in the general seating area\, on the South Lawn. Patrons are permitted to bring food and non-alcoholic beverages onto the grounds for this event. Concessions will also be offered for purchase.\nTickets will go on sale April 25 and can be purchased through the Poplar Forest Box Office (ticket link is below). The simple elegance of the president’s Palladian-inspired design was hidden by the renovations subsequent owners made to the structure to suit their tastes. Learn how the restoration architects and architectural historians and craftsmen are continuing their meticulous restoration of what Jefferson affectionately called the “Best dwelling house in the state…” on an hour long guided tour by Travis McDonald\, Poplar Forest’s Director of Architectural Restoration and the architect of the ground breaking restoration process developed to save the historic structure.\n \nTickets for the Architectural Restoration Behind the Scenes Talk and Tour are $20 in advance and $20 at the door. Admission also includes a guided house tour and self-guided exploration of exhibits in the lower level of the house\, the Wing of Offices\, the ornamental grounds and slave quarter site. Weekend visitors can add the Enslaved Community Tour (when available) to their itinerary at no extra cost.\n \nTickets

DESCRIPTION:Join Poplar Forest for an early-evening Pilates workout on Jefferson’s south lawn brought to you by Peakland Pilates. Experience a full-body workout with an emphasis on strengthening deep core muscles and developing flexibility. By working in proper postural alignment\, Pilates helps to lengthen and tone muscles all over with just a mat and bodyweight. This low-impact workout will leave you feeling energized and taller. $10 per person\, per class\, or $15 per person for both classes; taught by either Jenna Chalk or Celeste Sedlar\, co-owners of Peakland Pilates. Reservations are encouraged as classes will be limited to 25 people. \nIn the event of inclement weather\, we will contact ticket holders via email by 3:00 p.m. the day of the class with a rescheduled date.
