Mr. Jefferson’s Salon Series—Conversations on Creativity
- This event has passed.
October 17, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Join Poplar Forest as we partner with the Virginia Center of the Creative Arts (VCCA) to welcome author Stephen O’ Connor and local playwright, Teresa Harris, as they discuss the artistic process both have used to create works of art centered around Thomas Jefferson and Poplar Forest. O’Connor’s recent novel, Thomas Jefferson Dreams of Sally Hemings, was conceived of while he was a Fellow in residence at the VCCA in Amherst, VA. Harris, an employee of Randolph College, works to create short plays that represent the history of African American people in Central Virginia. She is currently working on a set of vignettes to be performed at Poplar Forest in the spring that bring to life stories of several members of Jefferson’s enslaved community.
The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with the discussion and Q&A session in the dining room of Mr. Jefferson’s retreat home. A wine and cheese reception will follow in the lower level of the house. Admission for the talk is $15 or $10 for college students with a valid student id. Reservations are required due to limited space available. Make your reservation today by purchasing tickets below or by calling the Museum Shop at 434.534.8120.
