James Triesler, Director of Education at the Virginia War Memorial, will speak on the wartime postal system that was a vital line of communication for those in uniform and their families at home. Getting a letter meant everything—but it wasn’t always easy or timely. Censorship, special family codes, microfilmed V-Mail—these were all part of the story. Triesler will also pay special tribute to the 6888th Postal Battalion, the only all-African American, all-female unit to serve overseas during WWII.
