Fun Fall Family Activities

Fall is here in Bedford! One of the best things about this season is all of the fun activities that come along with it! Fall is a great time to explore pumpkin patches, orchards, wineries and so much more that Bedford has to offer! Wanderlust is defined as a strong desire to travel, but here in Virginia, we call that feeling WanderLove. You can experience this by finding a hidden gem or going on a road trip with friends or family! When you visit all of the places below, you will have that feeling!


Layman Family Farms
Layman Family Farms is open for the 2020 season! Come enjoy the cow train, corn cannon, jumping pillow, bee line zip, pumpkin blasters, corn maze, and more! Food and beverages are on site for purchase. You can also visit the pumpkin patch and pick out your very own to take home (additional cost). Fun for the whole family!
Saturday  10AM – 7PM
Sunday   11AM – 6PM
Wednesday & Friday 10AM – 5PM
Admission- $12 ages 3-59
$8 for seniors (60+)
Kids 2 & under are free!

Open Farm Days at Lottie J. Farms will be every Saturday in October where you can pick the perfect pumpkin, visit with the farm animals, climb the hay pyramid or slide down and take a dip in the corn pit. This farm is the home to alpacas, pigs, chickens and goats! Tell your friends and family to come along and have a fun day on the farm!

Admission – $3 per person
Ages 3 & under are free!
 
This family owned and operated business is located at the foot of the Peaks of Otter and only 8 miles from historic downtown Bedford. Gross’ Orchard is the perfect place to pick your own produce straight from the tree or you can select already picked fruit from the store. Their specialties are mountain grown peaches and apples. Enjoy a picnic and a stroll through the orchards with a pretty mountain backdrop. On November 7th, Gross’ Orchard will host the 23rd Annual Apple Valley 5K. To register, click here.

If you want to go apple picking, Johnson’s Orchard is the ultimate day trip for you! While visiting this time of year, you will see fall colors on the trees, mountain views and lots of animals! Feed for the animals can be purchased inside the farm store where you will also find a wide variety of produce, jams, hot sauces, bottled wine, freshly picked fruit and much more! If you’re visiting and want to capture a family picture, Johnson’s Orchard has a field of sunflowers and a LOVE sign that would make the perfect backdrop!

The wineries in Bedford are all family-friendly and a great place to visit this time of year! Did you know that October is Virginia Wine Month? Celebrate by visiting these wineries – Peaks of Otter Winery Ramulose Ridge Vineyards, Hickory Hill Vineyards, and Leo Grande. All have gorgeous mountain views and offer a variety of wines.
